It’s time to book your holiday getaway with Adobe Destinations!
The holidays are coming up and that means it’s time to book your vacation to Santa Fe! Whether it’s a family tradition, a couples’ escape from holiday stress, or your first adventure to the southwest, this is a great time to visit. There are so many activities to keep you busy, and the magic of the season is felt everywhere! From spa retreats to craft fairs galore, Christmas in Santa Fe is something everyone needs to experience at least once.
Some of our favorite Santa Fe traditions include
Christmas at the Palace – Santa Fe’s beloved Christmas at the Palace brings the community together for an evening of hot cider, cookies, live music, piñatas, craft-making activities, a chance to operate an antique printing press and the visit of Mr. and Mrs. Claus — all in the legendary magic of the Palace of the Governors. A free, family event. (Donations of non-perishable food welcomed.)
Santa Fe Farolito Walk – A Santa Fe Christmas Eve tradition, the Farolito walk is enough to make you want to come to Santa Fe on its own! Farolitos (sometimes called Luminarias) are unique to the Southwest – coming from Spanish merchants hundreds of years ago, they have been a staple Christmas decoration throughout the ages. This free, all-day event picks up at dusk with dozens of stores, galleries, and restaurants along Canyon Road hosting special hours to celebrate.
The Desert Chorale Winter Concert series held at Cathedral Basilica in Santa Fe is a beautiful way to ring in the holidays. Listen to one of the nation’s leading professional vocal ensembles as they serenade you with the sounds of the season in one of the most enchanting buildings in Santa Fe!

If you’re coming earlier in the month, don’t miss Las Posadas, the annual candle-lit procession travels around the Santa Fe Plaza and concludes in the Palace Courtyard. This version of an old Hispanic tradition recreates Mary and Joseph’s search for a place to give birth to the Baby Jesus – and throws in a few devils for good measure. Stay for carols in the Palace Courtyard, along with cookies and refreshments. Free and open to the public – December 13.
If you’re in the area earlier in the season, here are some other events not to be missed!
- Lighting of the Christmas Tree on the Plaza
- Winter Indian Market
- Botanical Garden Glow
- New Mexico Mariachi Christmas
